Library News
UCV Library Committee members have been buzzing this summer!

New Books
Barbara Taylor's cataloguing brings new books to our shelves. Here's a sample:

Welcoming by Andrea Nicki (UCV member) - poetry & fiction
Even This Grey Dawn published by the Canadian Unitarian Council, the 4th annual poetry anthology (with poems by UCV members Keith Wilkinson and Peggy Woods)
The Seven Principles in Word and Worship edited by Ellen Brandenburg
With Purpose and Principle, Essays about the Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism edited by Edward A. Frost
..... & for fans of Alexander McCall Smith - Friends, Lovers, Chocolate.

Practicum & New Cataloguing Software
For 2 weeks in June, Aphrodite Harris and Elizabeth Murdoch supervised a Langara College Library Technician practicum for Mykael Esplen. As computer technical advisor, Reed Harris eased our way into computerized cataloguing. Mykael installed and tested the software, introduced some members to its use and wrote a tutorial for us. He was a delight to work with and accomplished additional tasks in those two short and very busy weeks.

Library Work bee
At the same time, we had a "library blitz". Jean Stanton updated library members' registrations, Maggie de Vries culled the Children's section, Lindsay Undem refreshed the card catalogue, Hilda Wiebe and Aphrodite reviewed the Environment and Unitarian sections. In doing all this work, we identified even more tasks!

Summer Book Sale starts August 8
Members are now concentrating on preparing for the Summer Book Sale.  We’d love to see your donations of books in good condition (excepting textbooks).

Centenary Mosaic
The Centenary Mosaic, made from glass mosaics of which some were purchased in Venice 40 years ago, is now hanging on a wall in the hall.

New art shows have been organized for most of 2010. We look forward to your comments regarding the shows in the sanctuary.
—Chris Pearce, Arts Committee Co-Chair
