Daytimers’ meetings are open to anyone with the time and interest to attend morning, lunchtime and/or afternoon programs. Your presence, participation and ideas are welcome. All you need to join in is a few hours free on the designated Thursdays of each month and your lunch in a bag. We'll look forward to seeing you in the Fireside Room.
Come for some lively conversation with some very interesting older folk.
The History of the Daytimers
For forty seven years the Daytimers has been a program that has enabled seniors to stay connected and be generous contributors to UCV. When Wanda Justice was no longer able to keep the program organized she asked me to keep the program going. I was having my own problems with vision and hearing so I turned to our minister. Rev. Steven Epperson went to the archives for help and found that the assistant to the minister, Clare Buckland, had set the program up with transportation assistance and during the following years two assistant ministers had provided support. He also found the Muriel Cunliffe fund which was to support seniors housing, if possible, or if that was not possible it was to be used for the continuing support of the Daytimers.
In 1980 some of us worked on a proposal for an Abbeyfield house over the parking lot. The building was designed and costed out by our architect, Wolfgang Gerson. The congregation turned this proposal down and the interest rate went so high that social housing was no longer funded by the government.
Sacred Circle Dance
September to June, second Mondays of the month, 7 – 9 pm, Hewett Centre, by donation
Sometimes there are other events, including teachers from the US, UK or other parts of Canada. More information is available by email.
Come and learn a variety of sacred circle dances. These are easy to learn and are more about spiritual practice and community building than about right steps. In fact, our mantra is that there are no wrong steps, only variations. Usually a group of 10 to 15, we meet in Hewett Centre and dance to recorded music. |
