Canvass launch on March 21
Sustaining UCV in Our Second Century
Come and join us on March 21, after the Sunday service, to launch our best ever pledge drive! Make your contribution to this great congregation on March 21, and join us for warm strudel, with cold ice cream, to celebrate our progress to financial sustainability. Canvassers will also accept your pledge on March 28 and April 4. Every dedicated pledge and personal effort makes a difference.

Thanks to the deep commitment of the UCV community over the last few years, we are very close to being a financially stable church. Our goal this year is to raise $400,000 in pledges, and (finally) eliminate our deficit. This would be possible with just a 10% increase in pledges. What a wonderful way to set a sustainable foundation for our second century !

Benefit Performance: Agatha Christie's Classic "And Then There Were None"
Tuesday, May 11, 8 pm
Metro Theatre, 1370 SW Marine Drive (at the bottom of Granville Street, bear right instead of going over the bridge)
Tickets $15 for everyone (no credit cards), available at Refugee Committee lunches and from Refugee Committee members. (Phone Anne Stuart at 604.739.6091 for more info.)

The production is a benefit for the Refugee Committee jointly with Grandmothers to Grandmothers, an organization of Canadian women helping African grandmothers support their AIDS-orphaned grandchildren (there are several members of Gs to Gs in our congregation.)

We hope the performance will not only raise much-needed funds for the Refugee Committee, but also provide an enjoyable, inexpensive social (and sociable) evening for our congregation.

For those of you who want to make a fuller evening of it by having a meal first, the Coast Hotel White Spot at 1041 SW Marine Drive promises to have you out in time for the curtain, as does Cravings at 8804 Osler Street (72nd near Oak and just three blocks from the theatre). Parking near the theatre is available in the parking lot of the Fraser Arms Hotel, just 100 yards west of the theatre on the corner of Granville and SW Marine Drive (far end of the parking lot only, please). If you prefer public transport, take the #17 Oak past UCV and get off at 72nd - then just bear right a very short distance into SW Marine Drive.

2010 CUC ACM in Victoria
The theme for this year's conference: How Shall We Live?
The Canadian Unitarian Council's Annual Conference and Meeting 2010 will take place over the weekend of May 21– 24 at the University of Victoria, hosted by the two Victoria Unitarian congregations, First Victoria Church and Capital Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship.

Our congregation can send up to nine UCV members to serve as official delegates to the annual meeting. In addition to these nine official delegates we hope that many more UCV members will wish to attend the coonference and enjoy the fun and fellowship, the banner parade, the singing and worship, the keynote address to be given by Dr. Paul Bramadat, Director of U. Vic's Centre for Studies in Religion  and Society, the many concurrent workshop sessions, the premiere performance of  'Missa Breva Pro Serveto', a Unitarian Latin Mass and so much more of what  happens when Unitarians from all over Canada get together.

Please phone Jeannie Corsi, Chair of Denominational Affairs 604.224.1040 if you'd like to be confirmed by the board to serve as one of our church's nine official delegates to the annual meeting. Those serving as official delegates can receive a  tax receipt (by means of a cheque exchange) for expenses incurred to attend.
