| Membership Committee
|
Our Role The Membership Committee has two purposes:
- To attract and welcome newcomers to the church and help integrate them into the life of the church
- To foster among our membership a strong sense of ownership in the Unitarian Church of Vancouver by utilizing the skills and interests of individuals and by acknowledging and celebrating the accomplishments of individuals and groups.
The work of the committee is carried out by sub-groups, which are responsible for attracting and welcoming visitors and newcomers, for new U orientation, for integrating/retaining members, and for records management.
We appreciate hearing from members who have suggestions and comments to help us ensure that all members are involved in the life of the Unitarian Church of Vancouver.
New U in a Day Sessions These sessions are presented by a sub-group of the Membership Committee. They are intended for anyone who wants to learn more about Unitarianism and the Unitarian Church of Vancouver, and for everyone who is interested in joining our church.
There are two sessions each year, held on a Saturday from 9:30 to 2:30. "New U in a day” introduces Unitarian history and theology along with the story of our own church and a tour of the buildings and grounds. It’s a great time to get to know other newcomers and church members and to explore your own beliefs. Attendees of the New U day will be invited to join the church by signing the Membership Book during an Informational Breakfast meeting held 2 or 3 weeks later. Contact Dianne Crosbie: 604.876.6543 or email.
Circle Dinners The Membership Committee organizes a very successful Circle Dinner program in which members gather for a potluck dinner in the home of a member once a month. Watch for registration for a new year of Circle Dinners in September.

| Pagan Committee
|
|
The Pagan Committee meets regularly on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 pm in the Fireside Room, and leads several worship services during the year. We provide a spiritual meeting place for Unitarian pagans to socialize, network, learn, celebrate and have fun. In our monthly meetings we sponsor speakers and promote discussion to encourage the understanding and practice of pagan and earth-centered spirituality within a Unitarian context. Our long term projects are to develop and provide to the church and general public theological, liturgical, and educational materials based on paganism and on earth- and nature-centered religious and spiritual perspectives. You can join the email chat group: email. Contact Huguette Sansonet: 604.542.1225 or email.

| Covenant Groups
|
Our first priorities in our church life are to walk with and to support one another on our various religious journeys – and to care for one another. To these ends we do the work of maintaining this religious community in all its many facets.
Most particularly, we have established Covenant Groups, which are units of 5-11 people that meet at least once a month for 2-2½ hours of convivial sharing and celebration. Each group has its own facilitator, who in turn is served by a covenant group that comprises all the facilitators and is led by the parish minister. The groups start up in October, end in June, and reform as different groups the next October.
Our hope is that in time almost everyone in the church will be served by a covenant group and, along with Sunday worship, will find participation to be foundational to our common spiritual endeavor. People are welcome to join groups throughout the church year. Contact Marg Fletcher.

| Daytimers
|
|
Daytimers are a lively group of people who have time during the day to meet for discussions, book reviews, shared writing, social action, socializing, and many other interesting activities. The group meets first, third, and fifth Thursdays of the month from September to June in Hewett Centre. There is an 11:00 am discussion, bag lunch at noon, and a program at 1:00 pm.

| Humanist Discussion Group
|
The Humanist Discussion Group has been a long-term staple of church life, representing the Unitarian principle of respecting the guidance of reason and scientific results. Meetings on humanist themes are held from time to time. Watch for announcements in the Bulletin and the Sunday Order of Service.
